An Atlanta native, James Ferree was appointed Principal Horn of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in 2018. Formerly Principal Horn of the Richmond Symphony in Virginia and a member of the New World Symphony and Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, James has also performed as guest with the orchestras of Baltimore, Atlanta, Virginia, Florida, Jacksonville, Kansas City, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, including international tours with LA Phil and Gustavo Dudamel to Asia and Europe. Solo appearances include Schumann’s Konzertstück, the Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn & Strings, Glière’s Horn Concerto, and Messiaen’s Des Canyons aux Ètoiles. With a Master's degree from Juilliard, James's primary teachers include William Purvis, Jerome Ashby, Richard Deane, and Hermann Baumann. Also a composer and arranger, James looks forward to the premier of his chamber orchestra arrangement of Bach's complete Goldberg Variations with SPCO next season.
