Conducting Fellowship

The Lakes Area Music Festival is one of the fastest growing arts organizations in the nation. Set amongst the stunning beauty and lakeside recreation of central Minnesota, LAMF fosters the highest level of artistic excellence, while connecting its professional roster of musicians with a vibrant community of music lovers.

LAMF's 2025 Conducting Fellowship Program will offer one conductor with a paid fellowship in Brainerd, Minnesota spanning 4 weeks: July 21 through August 17. The selected fellow will assist and be mentored by music director Christian Reif and work with members of the festival's roster, made up of over 250 musicians from the top orchestras and opera companies in the nation. Additional opportunities are listed below.

The program offers:

  • 4 weeks of daily, immersive activities with LAMF’s roster of musicians from the nation’s top professional orchestras and operas
  • Individual mentorship with music director Christian Reif
  • Assisting on six orchestral programs; score calling for livestreamed performances.

COMPENSATION

  • $1,600
  • Domestic flight, local transportation
  • Host accommodations
  • Access to all festival rehearsals, performances, and other activities

The application deadline for our 2025 conducting fellowship is Friday, February 7, 2025.

There is no fee to apply.

ELIGABILITY:

  • This fellowship is open to serious orchestral conductors early stages of their professional careers.
  • Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or non-citizen lawfully and permanently residing or studying full-time in the United States.
  • Applicants must be available to be in Brainerd, Minnesota July 21 through August 17 (does not include travel dates).
