Sage Shurman (b. 2005) is a composer and pianist based in Los Angeles. Her music has been described as unpredictable yet driving, full of contrast, rhythmic interplay, and direction. Shurman is a 2022 winner of the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, a 2022 YoungArts winner, a three-year member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellowship program, and the recipient of a fellowship that Hub New Music launched with Luna Lab. She has been commissioned by groups including Hub New Music, the Taos Chamber Music Group, and the Cincinnati May Festival. Shurman's works have been performed by ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Sandbox Percussion. Shurman is also interested in mixed media work and as a 2024 Conflux Fellow, recently exhibited a dance performance space with motion triggered audio. Additionally, she has experience film scoring and worked with film score composer, Kurt Farquhar. Shurman is a freshman at Harvard studying music and neuroscience.
