Listening Lab: This Land, This Sound

A listening journey through the rhythms, voices, and traditions that make American classical music distinct, as featured in our patriotic outdoor concert Celebrating 250.

Join us as we listen and delve into various pieces and composers featured throughout the 2026 Lakes Area Music Festival. Prior to each session participants will be invited to listen to the featured piece of music. Then, during the 90-minute session we will discuss what you heard, learn more about the context of each composers' work, and listen to excerpts with guided discussion.

All levels of musical knowledge are welcome! This discussion will be led by Artistic Advisor, Loki Karuna.

  • Sessions held 10-11:30am at the choir room at Brainerd High School (602 S 5th St, Brainerd).
  • Signup to receive preparatory materials and confirmation one week prior to each session.
  • Free admission, donations accepted.
  • Additional Listening Lab session include What Carmen Learned from Flamenco (7/1) and The Schumanns and Their Brahms (7/15)
