Victoria Vargas, Voice

Mezzo-soprano Victoria Vargas’ credits include Carmen (Carmen), Mrs. Lowe (The Manchurian Candidate), Adelaide (Arabella), Natacha Rambova (The Dream of Valentino), Third Lady (Magic Flute), Fenena (Nabucco), Smeton (Anna Bolena), Mrs. Deakins in the world premiere of Doubt, Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Nelly (Wuthering Heights), Flora (La Traviata), Anna (Maria Stuarda), Mamma Lucia (Cavalleria Rusticana), Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro), Tisbe (La Cenerentola) and recently Jade Boucher (Dead Man Walking). She has performed for several years with the Minnesota Opera and has sung across the country with Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Chautauqua Opera, Sarasota Opera, Ash Lawn Highland Festival and others.

Equally comfortable in concert work, Mrs. Vargas has sung with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (NY), Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (MN), Mankato Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, St. Cloud Orchestra, the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, South Dakota Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Wayzata Symphony, La Jolla Symphony and Minnesota Orchestra. Upcoming in 2018 she will be singing Schubert’s Mass in F (D. 105).

Ms. Vargas has placed seven times at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions at both the district and regional levels. She also placed second in the Schubert Club competition, and was a finalist in the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition for Opera San Jose.

Mrs. Vargas is on faculty for the MacPhail Center for Music and Carleton College. This summer she will be a National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern for the 2018 program. She holds a masters of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a bachelors of music Degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia.
