A passionate proponent of new music, Elser has performed at the Mostly Modern Festival in the Netherlands, with the International Contemporary Ensemble in California, and the soundSCAPE Festival in Italy and during his studies he was concertmaster of the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra. In his free time he enjoys hiking, playing chess, and improvising on piano.
