From early baroque to contemporary music, German violinist Thomas Reif is equally sought after for his work as soloist, concertmaster and chamber musician. Having found his passion for orchestra and the great repertoire of Mahler, Strauss and Wagner as a teenage member of the German Youth Orchestra he is now concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In his time outside the orchestra he is diving into the Golden Age of Argentinian Tango with Cuarteto SolTango, a group that he joined in 2017. In 2023 they released their fifth studio album Poesía, featuring the argentinian singer Leonel Capitano who in their eyes is one of the rare talents in singing original tango music.
Always trying to find a good balance between all those great musical genres he has recently been concentrating on chamber music collaborations with Alice Sara Ott, Julia Hagen, Sebastian Klinger, Nils Mönkemeyer and Sebastian Manz performing throughout Europe. As a result of such endeavours he was part of an exciting video production of Messiaen‘s Quartet for the End of Time by Andrew Staples released in 2023 by DG‘s STAGE+.
Having studied with Prof. Tanja Becker-Bender in Hamburg and Prof. Stephan Picard in Berlin he himself was appointed professor at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in 2022, over the moon to be teaching in the very room where he had lessons with Prof. Harald Herzl as a teenager. He plays on a violin by Pietro Guarneri from 1690.
