Nathan Romportl is an operatic and concert tenor recognized for his versatility across a wide-ranging repertoire, from bel canto and contemporary opera to early music. In the fall of 2025, he joins the Juilliard School as a Kovner Fellow in the Master of Music program.
He has performed with Minnesota Opera in several mainstage productions, including Roméo et Juliette as Benvolio and the world premiere of Jocelyn Hagen’s The Song Poet as Bee Yang’s brother. As a member of the Minnesota Opera Chorus, he has also appeared in La bohème, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, and The Daughter of the Regiment. Nathan has also contributed to the development of new operatic repertoire through his work with the company’s New Works Initiative.
Nathan has been featured as a concert soloist for ensembles and sacred music institutions including Exultate Chamber Ensemble, Sonomento, The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, WI, and Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Louis Park, MN. His performance repertoire includes Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bach’s Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G, and the role of Evangelist in both John Stainer’s Crucifixion and Charles Wood’s St Mark Passion.
He has performed regularly with early music ensembles including The Mirandola Ensemble, appearing as a soloist on their most recent commercial recording of The Infant King, and Consortium Carissimi, where he was featured in Carissimi’s Jephte and Jonas. In 2022, Nathan debuted the role of Charlie Silver in the workshop world premiere of Requiem for Frankie Silver, a contemporary oratorio by Craig Carnahan.
Nathan was a finalist in the 2025 Carolyn Bailey Argento Vocal Competition and the 2024 Schubert Club Competition.
