Violist Joshua Kail joined the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in October 2023. A native of New York City, he will begin working in the Minnesota Orchestra in the fall of 2026.
As a chamber musician, Joshua has performed at festivals such as Fjord Classics, Creative Dialogue France, Festival de Prades Pablo Casals, Music Academy of the West, Taos School of Music and the Perlman Music Program. He has played alongside musicians including Itzhak Perlman, Paul Neubauer, Liza Ferschtman, Bjørg Lewis, Lars Anders Tomter, Astrid Schween, and the Harlem Quartet. As an orchestral musician he has performed with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and the Oslo Philharmonic. He has also served as guest principal viola of the Tampere Philharmonic and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
Joshua Kail received his bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Hsin-Yun Huang and Heidi Castleman. He went on to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Lars Anders Tomter and was an orchestral fellow with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra for two seasons. His other significant instructors are Yi-fang Huang, Molly Carr, Kirsten Docter, and Carol Rodland.
