Based in Atlanta and originally from Augusta, Georgia, mezzo-soprano Isabella Chaney captivates audiences with her rich tone and compelling stage presence. In the 2025–2026 season, she appears on the Atlanta Opera Studio Tour as the gender-bent Modern Major General in The Pirates of Penzance and joins the Lakes Area Music Festival as Mercedes in Carmen. Ms. Chaney has developed a particular affinity for Bizet’s Carmen, having performed the title role at Georgia State University and reprising it with Capitol City Opera in June 2025. Additional recent roles include Meg Page in Falstaff with Atlanta Concert Opera and Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus. She is recognized by colleagues and conductors alike as a dedicated and promising emerging artist.
Ms. Chaney is a 2025 graduate of Georgia State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Her principal teachers include Grammy Award–winning tenor Richard Clement, as well as Kathryn Hartgrove, Gail Dubinbaum, and Les Reagan. She has performed internationally as Tisbe in La Cenerentola in Italy and appeared in the World Symposium on Choral Music in Turkey. Her honors include first place in the Brumby Concerto Competition (2024), the Shuler Award for Best Leading Actress (2020), and advancement to the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (Jimmy Awards). Most recently, she competed in the Georgia District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in November 2025.
Offstage, Ms. Chaney enjoys spending time outdoors and is deeply grateful to her family and friends for their continued support.
