The Lakes Area Music Festival is a year round music performance and education organization located in Brainerd, MN. The central activities of the organization occur during the summer festival season in July and August. LAMF is hiring a Development and Communications Intern to support the organizations’ development operations, summer fundraising events, and marketing and development communications in the summer of 2024. This position works closely with and reports to the Development Director, Daniel Meyers.
Period of internship: June 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024 (start and end dates flexible)
Hours: 30-40 hours per week
Compensation: $14 per hour; transportation stipend; housing provided. Intern will need their own car and computer.
Location: On location in Brainerd, MN July 8 to August 20 (housing provided). Hybrid option June 1 through June 18
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program or a May 2024 graduate.
Primary Duties
- Assist with seasonal development operations:
- Support record-keeping and gift administration in donor CRM database (eTapestry)
- Coordinate stewardship opportunities between donors and musicians
- Pull reports and prepare recognition and mailing lists as needed.
- Special events coordination: Assist with Summer Solstice fundraising, season opening Gala, house parties, pre-concert receptions, and other smaller fundraising or development events.
- Communications:
- Assist with writing and distributing promotional and follow-up emails for Festival concerts and events using Mailchimp
- Prepare and edit donor communications including special event invitations, acknowledgment letters, etc.
Competencies Required
- General computer competency and comfort learning new software.
- Basic knowledge and experience with: Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
- Good organizational skills.
- Comfort interacting with various constituencies as an organizational representative. Customer service experience is a plus.
- Basic writing and editing skills.
Skills Developed
- Understanding and experience with development operations and various fundraising techniques and strategies
- Writing for unique targeted audiences
- Utilizing donor records and pulling reports in industry standard donor CRM database (Blackbaud eTapestry)
- Administering fundraising auction and event management software (ClickBid)
- Advanced Microsoft Word and Excel features including data merging documents, creating pivot tables, and utilizing formulas to manage large numbers of data records
