Aleck Belcher, Bass

Aleck Belcher is from Carmel, Indiana. He began bass lessons at the age of 11 with Robert Goodlett. At the age of 16, he enrolled at Indiana University under full scholarship to study with Kurt Muroki. At the age of 19, he joined the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and in the fall of 2019 was appointed Associate Principal Bass by Music Director Stéphane Denève.

Belcher has also performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He plays an unlabeled mid-19th century Brescian double bass and a French bow attributed to the Fétique family.

Belcher is interested in cycling, walkable cities, and mass transit, and is an active member of St. Louis Urbanists, an urban planning advocacy group. He is an avid powerlifter and his best USAPL meet total is 605kg as an 80.3kg lifter (416 DOTS).
