LOVE LETTERS

SATURDAY,
DECEMBER 5

7:30 p.m. Central Time

Our 2020/21 Winter Series begins with “Love Letters”, a vocal recital of intimate sentiments performed in an intimate space. Performed by artistic directors Scott Lykins and John Taylor Ward, highlights include the US premier of Gerald Barry’s Beethoven, a witty and heart-rending setting of Ludwig van Beethoven’s own love letters, Samuel Coleridge Taylor’s sumptuous and seldom-heard Songs of Sun and Shade, as well as works by H. T. Burleigh, Kate Soper, Beethoven, Franz Schubert, and Erich Korngold.

Broadcast worldwide from Lykins’ home in Minneapolis, “Love Letters’ will be presented streaming on the JustGiving platform which enables non-profits to expand their reach and their impact. Access is free, with the opportunity to donate to support LAMF’s valuable programs.

LAMFcast: History of Art Song

Saturday, November 28
10 a.m. Central

Music and poetry have been linked throughout human history, and Art Song is the genre of Western Classical Music which most intimately explores this intersection. From small family gatherings, to sophisticated salons and concert halls, this art form produced some of the greatest achievements of composers like Franz Schubert, Gabriel Fauré and many more. John Taylor Ward will be joined by award-winning Art Song specialist and former McKnight Fellow, Clara Osowski, for a discussion of the history and relevance of this repertoire.
