Clarinetist Triniti Rives joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2025 as an African American Orchestra Fellow. She has appeared as a guest with The Florida Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and was a pre-concert performer for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
A lover of chamber music, Rives has performed with the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings (DCWS) as part of its Nightnotes Series, the Detroit Institute of Arts' Friday Night Live Series in collaboration with DCWS, as well as at the 2025 Chamber Music America Conference. Committed to championing the music of living composers, she recently premiered Jeremy Crosmer's Paradise Harmonies for clarinet, cello, and harp, Daniel Pesca's Visions of Mt. Tamalpais for chamber orchestra, and has also performed works by Valerie Coleman, Nathalie Joachim, Paquito D'Rivera, and other notable contemporary composers. She previously served as a Young Artist with the DACAMERA of Houston, a fellowship program through which she shared her artistry in chamber performances across the Houston community while also collaborating with fellow cohort members on in-school educational engagements.
Rives was a finalist in the 2024 Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions and the 2023 Keston MAX Competition. She received honorable mention in the 2023 Briggs Chamber Music Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Coltman Chamber Music Competition with her former ensemble, the Novus Reed Quintet, recipients of the Gottlieb Variations Award from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance. An active festival musician, Rives joins the roster of the Lakes Area Music Festival, and has also participated in the Hidden Valley Chamber Music Seminar, Music Academy of the West, National Orchestral Institute + Festival, and Eastern Music Festival. She can be heard throughout the NOI Philharmonic's sixth album, particularly as principal clarinet on Aaron Copland's The Tender Land Suite, released by Naxos Records in 2023 under the direction of JoAnn Falletta.
Originally from the metro-Atlanta area, Rives earned her Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan, and her Master of Music from Rice University. She is deeply grateful to her primary teachers, Richie Hawley, Daniel Gilbert, and Chad Burrow. She is also an alumna of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Talent Development Program, where she studied with Marci Gurnow and Heather Rodriguez. Outside of music, Rives enjoys archery through the Adult Archery Development Program at the Rising Phoenix Archery Club, as well as photography, baking, and spending time with loved ones.
