Elina Rubio, Violin

Born in Elche, Spain in 1996, Elina Rubio Pentcheva, received early instruction on the violin from her mother Tania Pentcheva Boneva. At a very young age she began
playing concerts in Spain, Bulgaria and Germany. During this period she worked with the Russian violinist Mikhail Bezverhny and with Roberto Valdes (Professor at the Piaget Institute in Portugal).

When she was only nine years old, she won the San Andreu de la Barca Competition in Barcelona as well as many other international Competitions in the following years. After attending several international master classes, at the age of 13 Elina Rubio started her undergraduate studies as Saxony’s youngest student at Dresden’s “Carl Maria von Weber” School of Music. In 2012 she received a two-year scholarship grant from the Kammermusik am Hochrhein, Gailingen to pursue her studies in Dresden as well as record her debut CD for GENUIN classics with the collaboration of the British pianist Graham Jackson, with which she performs regularly.

Elina Rubio has performed with the MDR Leipzig playing Tschaikovsky's Concerto, Concerto Funebre of Hartmann with the Sinfonia Orchestra in Dresden, Ammandsberg Orchestra and numerous concerts with the Schumen Symphony Orchestra in Bulgaria. She is a regular guest at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid with the Chamber Orchestra “Andres Segovia” in Madrid and participates with the Youth Orchestra of the Generalitat Valenciana, with whom she has played Prokofiev, Brahms, Tschaikovsky, Mozart, Bach and Haydn. She developed also in contemporary music; she has worked with contemporary composers and premiered several works at festivals in Valencia and Dresden, including pieces from Wolfgang Rihm and Francisco Garcia Coll.

She took part in recording the music from the documentary “1980” directed by the Spanish director Iñaki Arteta and the video recorded by the Technical University of Dresden “Incredibly Exciting – TU Dresden” (which received two international awards). Always willing to expand her vision in artistic and musical life, Elina participates at several International festivals, including Kronberg (Germany) and Keshet Eilon (Israel). She pursued her Master’s degree with the prestigious violinist Ilya Kaler at DePaul University in Chicago. She graduated from Indiana University with an Artist Diploma and a Performance Diploma under the guidance of Professor Mauricio Fuks. In 2019 Elina won prizes at the NSAL Competition (Indiana) and MTNA Competition (Washington). Her latest debut was at the Musical Arts Center, performing the Paganini Violin Concerto under the baton of Maestro Sandmeier.

The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra appointed Elina as Concertmaster beginning in 2021, as well as Concertmaster of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for the 2022-2023 season. She was been appointed Assistant Concertmaster of the Evansville Symphony Orchestra in 2021, as well as Assistant Concertmaster of the Owensboro Symphony during the same season. Elina was featured as a soloist performing the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra in May 2023.

In the Summer of 2023 she attended the Aspen Music Festival, performing with faculty and as the Assistant of renowned Concertmasters as a Center of Orchestra Leadership fellow. Elina won a one-year position with the Minnesota Orchestra in the summer of 2023 and she recently won the auditions for Section Violin with the Utah Symphony Orchestra.

Elina plays a J.B. Vuillaume (1862) generously loaned to her by Mrs. and Mr. Uhlmann from Switzerland.
