TRANSCENDING THE NIGHT

SATURDAY,
FEBRUARY 27

7 p.m. Central Time

FB Icon

When the world is in crisis, humanity turns to music for hope, patience, and serenity. Spanning art song, jazz, spirituals, and opera, this intimate program showcases works that have helped the artists weather the storm of the last year as they dream of a brighter tomorrow. Seek comfort in the familiarity of Richard Strauss, Claude Debussy, and Duke Ellington, and open your imagination to works by composers such as Margaret Bonds, Undine Smith Moore, and Damien Sneed.

‘Transcending the Night’ was curated by LAMF Artistic Advisor Paul Hopper, Associate Artistic Administrator of the Metropolitan Opera.

LAMFcast: The Future of Opera

Saturday, February 20
10 a.m. Central

The public perception of opera has remained unchanged for a century – horned helmets, indulgent divas, and audiences decked in pearls and tuxedos. However, a new generation of singing actors, composers, and administrators is working to make this artform relevant in the present day. Paul Hopper, associate artistic administrator of the Metropolitan Opera and LAMF artistic advisor, joins artistic director John Taylor Ward in a discussion of his own career as an industry leader and where he thinks the future of opera lies.
