As society begins to see a light at the end of the tunnel of physical distancing, social injustice, and economic hardship, it’s important to remember that music can not only engage the stories that have been told, but also the healing required for the creation of a brighter, much warmer future. In the spirit of this proverbial winter-turned-spring, the Lakes Area Music Festival presents a COVID-safe chamber music concert featuring “seasonal” compositions by men of the past and women of today.
“Seasons of Change” was conceived by guest curator Garrett McQueen.
Saturday, March 27

Among the many stories told about the late great Josephine Baker is her inability to live in a country that wouldn’t treat her with the respect and humanity that she demanded. Has anything changed since her death? In what way does music keep her legacy alive? Musician and content creator, Garrett McQueen will lead a conversation answering those questions and more, with the music of Valerie Coleman as the guide.
Saturday, April 3
10 a.m. Central
Join artistic director Scott Lykins and concert curator Garrett McQueen for an informal chat about the program and pieces presented in this concert, and how it all came about. Grab a cup of coffee and join us!
Click below to join via Zoom, or head on over to the LAMF page and catch the conversation via Facebook live. Either way you’ll be able to submit questions and comments for a fun, participatory morning.
