NICHOLAS LANIER was a true Renaissance man—singer, songwriter, lute player, painter, and first to hold the title of Master of the King’s Musick. He brought the newest sounds of Europe to 17th-century England, reshaping its musical language for generations. Now his story comes full circle in performances by his many-times-great grandson, LAMF artistic director JOHN TAYLOR WARD. Ward is joined by GRAMMY® Award–winning early music specialist STEPHEN STUBBS in songs of courtly love, epic monodrama, and intimate storytelling.
