Currently based in Montreal, QC, cellist Erin Patterson is pursuing her Master’s Degree in in Cello Performance at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music under the tutelage of Matt Haimovitz. She began playing the cello at the age of three in the Suzuki Program in her hometown of Huntsville, AL and was later accepted into the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham to focus primarily on her music studies in high school. She made her solo debut with the Huntsville Symphony performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto at age 17.
During her summers she has been a participant of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the Brevard Music Festival, the Meadowmount School of Music, the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Piobbico, Italy. Erin is a prize winner of the 2014, 2015, and 2016 CCM undergraduate competitions and was a finalist in the 2015 CCM Cello Concerto Competition. She had the opportunity to perform Schumann's Cello Concerto with members of CCM's Philharmonia Orchestra in 2016. In addition to performing as a soloist, Erin is an avid chamber musician. Her quartet won the 2015 CCM Chamber Music Competition and she has been a fellow of the Cincinnati Young Artists Chamber Music Festival for the past 6 years. She will be returning to the CYA Chamber Music Festival on faculty in June of 2019.
Erin has performed in masterclasses for world renowned cellists such as Rafael Rosenfeld, Alisa Weilerstein, Pieter Wispelwey, Paul Watkins, Alan Harris, Tamas Varga, Fred Sherry, and Richard Aaron. She held a substitute cello position with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra between 2014-2017, and was the recipient of CCM's Bauer Memorial Scholarship in 2014, 2015, and 2016. She was also the recipient of the Vaughan Hedrick Award in 2017. Most recently, she had the opportunity to perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the University of British Columbia’s Chamber Orchestra in July 2018. Erin is a member of the Grammy nominated all cello ensemble, Uccello.
After graduating from McGill University in May of 2019, Erin will become the new cellist of the Altius Quartet — an ensemble based in Colorado that focuses on outreach and engages audiences in concert halls and alternative venues.
