The Lakes Area Music Festival is committed to making great classical music performances accessible to as wide an audience as possible. By not charging for tickets, we ensure that no one is shut out of our events because of their means, and the socioeconomic diversity of our audience showcases the success of this strategy. We are also particularly successful in drawing new audiences to classical music: 60% of our audience has never seen a live opera production outside those we’ve produced; for 28% of our audience we are their only exposure to classical performances throughout the year.
Also, our funding model allows each audience member to determine for themselves the value of our programs. The Lakes Area Music Festival’s wide base of financial support demonstrates the community’s ownership and investment in our shared goal. About 70% of our operating budget is covered exclusively through private, grassroots support.
All performance venues are fully handicapped accessible.
Large print programs and program notes are available upon request. For that or other requests to make our events more accessible, please contact Emma Ferrie.
