Our 2020 Season

July 31 through August 16, 2020

SEASON UPDATES

Keep LAMF on your calendar! We still plan to host a season spanning July 31 through August 16, with daily concerts and learning activities.

We have pivoted from the grand repertoire intended for this season to a new program of music featuring chamber music and small ensembles, featuring a smaller group of principal artists.

In a digital age, many organizations are sharing online content. With the safety of our artists and audience at the forefront of our planning, we will be streaming our activities online instead of hosting live audiences at Tornstrom Auditorium.

In total, we invite you to join us – from the comfort of your own home – for a total of 11 unique performances, including opera and ballet!

GOING VIRTUAL

Transferring to virtual concerts and distance learning will enable us to remain connected with you, while also developing new audiences and greater awareness world-wide! This season we will be working closely with Minnesota Public Radio in a redesigned partnership based on sharing our music and our organization with as many people as possible.

We also hope that this season will be a time for you to engage even more with the music we present, with lecture videos, interactive discussions with artists, and new learning programs for you to explore.

Depending on the activity, we will be using platforms like Facebook Live or Zoom. If these are new platforms for you, as we begin hosting activities we can provide technical assistance for you to get connected.

OUR LAMF ARTISTS

This is a difficult time for performing artists. Many musicians are freelancing or “gig” workers, and many arts organizations have had to make devastating layoffs due to closed doors. These financial impacts are in addition to losing the opportunity to do what we love most: creating music in collaboration with amazing colleagues.

We had engaged over 200 instrumentalists, singers, and designers to join us in Brainerd this summer. With a reduced roster this season, we have demonstrated our commitment to LAMF artists by partially compensating contracts that have been cancelled or reduced. And we have made a promise to reengage any artists who can’t attend this season for a return in 2021.

“LAMF has the great privilege of addressing these challenges from a place of strength rather than desperation. The changes we have made to this season will ensure the artistic excellence you expect from LAMF, provide new learning opportunities, and expand our audience– all while protecting the safety of our artists and our community. The distance that we will endure this season will only make our reunion sweeter in 2021, as we celebrate the opening of a new performing arts center!”
