Peter Povey began his violin studies at the age of 3 and piano at the age of 5. He studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music, and later at Eton for high school. He received his Bachelor of Music with honors from the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with Dona Lee Croft and Bela Katona. During his studies in London, Peter performed in orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He also played in orchestras on the soundtracks for movies and TV shows New Line, Searchlight, ITV and BBC. Peter has also performed on Nickledeon, BBC television, BBC radio, LBC radio, and WVIA public radio, as well as performing solo recitals all over Europe and the United States. Peter graduated with a Master of Music from Yale University in 2009 studying with Ani Kavafian with doctoral studies at Northwestern University with Gerardo Ribeiro. During his time in Chicago, Peter was a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, as well as assistant violin teacher for Professor Ribeiro at the Meadowmount School of Music summer festival. In the Fall of 2015, Peter will be starting as Assistant Professor of Violin at Syracuse University, and was previously on the faculty at the State University of New York at Geneseo, and Alabama State University.
