Clarinetist Jonathan Cohen began playing with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in the 2014-2015 season. Born in New Orleans, Jonathan began clarinet lessons with his father at the age of 10. He has performed as soloist with orchestras including the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, and the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra. As the winner of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition, Jonathan will also perform as soloist with the orchestra in the 2016-2017 season.
In addition to his success at competitions across the country, Jonathan was featured on the NPR program “From the Top” as part of a PBS television special with renowned mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves. Jonathan has performed in the Sarasota Music Festival and the Pacific Music Festival, in addition to performances at the Caramoor Festival in Katonah, NY and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. He has also appeared as a guest member with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Virginia Symphony, The Buffalo Philharmonic, the Cincinnati Symphony, and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Jonathan's major teaches have been Steve Cohen, Nathan Williams, Anthony McGill, Mark Nuccio, and Yehuda Gilad. He holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School.
