Oboist Jeffrey Marshak is an active free lance performer throughout the Twin Cities and currently holds the position of 2nd oboe/English horn with the Minnesota Opera Orchestra. He is a frequent guest musician with the Minnesota Orchestra, St Paul Chamber Orchestra, Duluth-Superior Symphony, and the Quad Cities Symphony. Prior to his arrival in Minnesota, Marshak has performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Westmoreland Symphony (PA), Richmond Symphony (IN), and the Kentucky Symphony. He has held summer fellowships with the Hot Springs Music Festival, The Opera and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy, and the National Orchestral Institute. He also has extensive pit orchestra experience performing with the Pittsburgh Playhouse, the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the Arnoff Theater, and the Bloomington Civic Theater. As an educator and pedagogue, Marshak has a small private studio and has taught Masterclasses at various institutes throughout the Twin Cities including Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. This summer will mark Jeff’s first season at LAMF.
Marshak holds a Bachelor of Music in performance from Wright State University in Dayton, OH, a Masters of Music in performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, OH, a Performance Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in performance from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. His primary teachers include Dr. Mark Ostoich, Dwight Parry-principal oboist of the Cincinnati Symphony, Cynthia Koledo-DeAlmeida-principal oboist of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and John Snow-assistance principal and acting principal oboist of the Minnesota Orchestra. When not performing or making reeds, Jeff enjoys being an active runner and hiker.
